About VNGA
Established in 1960, the Virginia National Guard Association is a non-profit 501(c)(19) veterans’ service organization representing over 10,000 Soldiers, Airmen and retirees of all ranks and status; enlisted, warrant and officer; traditional, active duty and retired.
Vision
To be the leading advocate for members and families of the Virginia National Guard. We will pursue and secure the most effective benefits and resources to help promote world-class service in support of our communities, commonwealth and nation.
Mission
The Virginia National Guard Association garners support for the Virginia National Guard’s role in state and national security, and improves its members’ quality of life.
Governance
Six elected members serve on the VNGA Board of Directors and provide oversight and governance to the association. They speak for each of the eight major subordinate commands within the Virginia National Guard. Retired guardsmen, company grade and warrant officers are all represented. VNGA Bylaws state principles and guidelines for the operation of the association. Appointed committee chairpersons provide leadership of special projects, standing commissions and ad hoc interests of the association and its members.
Three VNGA members serve on the Board of Directors of the Virginia National Guard Management Group, a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to represent the VNGA and its members’ interests. It is a governed board of eight members; three from the VNGA, three from the Virginia Army / Air Enlisted National Guard Association, and two from the Virginia National Guard Historical Foundation.
Six VNGA members serve on the Board of Directors of the Virginia National Guard Ventures, Inc, a recognized 501(c)(19) veterans service organization that advocates on behalf of the Virginia National Guard’s State Sponsored Life Insurance Program. The sitting President of the association is a non-voting member of the board.
