The Virginia National Guard Association, Inc., is set to spread holiday cheer across Virginia with a unique and festive statewide “Ugly Sweater Party” held Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The celebration takes place simultaneously in Richmond, Charlottesville, Norfolk, and Arlington.
“The association is hosting these social events across the Commonwealth to connect fellow Guardsmen together,” explained Karin Owens, chair of the Social Committee. “The socials allow for awareness and familiarity right in their local neighborhoods.”
Each venue was selected based on their location, amenities, and recommendations from other Guardsmen, said Owens.
While the “Ugly Sweater Party” is primarily a celebration of the holiday season, it also serves a philanthropic purpose. “We hope to build espirit de corps among our fellow Officers and Warrant Officers and increase membership,” Owens said. “If someone has fallen off the radar, this is a good opportunity to get back involved while also meeting people from their local communities.”
Chris Chon, president of the association, intends on galvanizing supporters prior to the upcoming Virginia General Assembly Session where the Virginia National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program reforms will be heavily debated.
The association invites members, Officers, and Warrant Officers, friends and families to don their most outrageous holiday attire for a night of fun and camaraderie.
