“The Virginia National Guard Association shall have all powers necessary, incident or appropriate to the furtherance of its purpose.”

The officers, directors and members of the Board of Directors provide direction, leadership and management of the association’s affairs. Officers are elected at the annual conference and are eligible for reelection annually. Directors are appointed by the President and confirmed by a majority vote of the board. The Board of Directors represent Virginia National Guard Soldiers and Airmen currently serving within the Virginia National Guard’s Major Subordinate Commands, the National Guard Bureau, the Armed Forces and retirees, alumni and associates.  The day-to-day operations are managed by a small part-time staff.

Position Descriptions

Elected Officers – The Elected Officers of the Virginia National Guard Association are a group of dedicated leaders who are committed to advocating for the needs and interests of the National Guard community in Virginia. They are elected by the membership of the association and serve in various roles, including President and Chair of the Board of Directors, Vice Presidents, and Vice Chairs. These officers work together to direct the affairs of the association, convene the Board of Directors, appoint committees and representatives, issue the call of the annual meeting and conference of the membership, and perform other duties as prescribed by the by-laws or assigned by the Board of Directors. The Elected Officers of the Virginia National Guard Association are passionate about supporting the National Guard of Virginia and ensuring that their voices are heard.

 

Board of Directors – The Board of Directors of the Virginia National Guard Association is a group of dedicated individuals who are elected by the membership of the association. They work together to direct the affairs of the association and ensure that it fulfills its mission of supporting and advocating for the National Guard community in Virginia. The Board of Directors is responsible for appointing committees, designating chairs and co-chairs, appointing special staff positions, issuing the call of the annual meeting and conference of the membership, and performing other duties as prescribed by the by-laws or assigned by the President and Chair of the Board of Directors. Members of the Board of Directors bring a wealth of experience, expertise, and passion to their roles, and work tirelessly to ensure that the Virginia National Guard Association is a strong and effective voice for the Virginia National Guard and their Families.

 

Committees – The Committees of the Virginia National Guard Association are made up of dedicated members who are appointed by the President and Chair of the Board of Directors. These committees work on specific issues and projects that are important to the National Guard community in Virginia. The Committees may include Standing Committees, which are permanent committees focused on ongoing areas of concern, as well as Special and Ad Hoc Committees, which are formed to address specific issues or initiatives. Members of the Committees bring a wide range of expertise and experience to their roles and work collaboratively to develop recommendations and proposals to advance the mission of the Virginia National Guard Association. The Committees play a critical role in shaping the priorities and agenda of the association and are an essential part of its overall structure and governance.
