Mar 10, 2020

RICHMOND, Va. — Dates for this summer’s Capitol Summit are July 19 to 21 and Oct. 4 to 6. 2020, at the National Guard Association of the United States building in Washington, D.C.

The Capitol Summit is one of two officer professional development programs that the National Guard Association of the United States currently offers Army and Air National Guard company-grade officers. The program brings Guardsmen from each state and territory to the nation’s capitol for a close look at how the government works and the role NGAUS plays in the legislative process. Retired Col. Mike Hadley, NGAUS legislative director, said attendees should leave Washington with new ideas and ways of thinking that can impact the rest of their military careers.

Application dates are May 1, for the July summit; and, July 10, for October summitt. Interested officers should contact the Virginia National Guard Association’s executive director or president.  Participation is open to NGAUS members, Army or Air, second lieutenant to captain or warrant officer 1 to chief warrant officer 2. Only one officer may attend each summit and the selectee is determined by the president and executive director.

The four-day, three-night trip includes visits to Capitol Hill and the Pentagon. Participants will also come to the National Guard Memorial, NGAUS headquarters in Washington, D.C., to hear from senior National Guard Bureau leaders, association officials and congressional staffers. NGAUS covers the costs of flights, hotel rooms and meals during the summit.
